The girl behind
TEXTILE STOCKPILE
I have always considered myself an artist. It has only been in the last 3 or 4 years that I have really found my medium. My paintings never quite turned out like I saw them in my head; and I can draw realistically, but don't really care to. It wasn't until I took a few textiles classes that I really found an art that I loved.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with concentration in Textiles from Eastern Michigan Universty. I graduated from Chelsea High School in 1998 with a plan to get my teaching certificate. I took the first semester of classes for my certificate and decided it wasn't for me. I switched my major to art and I have no regrets.
I prefer not to work representationally. I like the color and pattern to make the piece interesting. My goal in each piece is not to tell a story or to make a profound statement about life, I wish only for the piece to make someone smile. I achieve this by using bright and pleasing color combinations.
I like to make "usable art" like quilts, purses and scarves, among other things, because I feel that my time and effort making the piece is most appreciated when the owner can actually touch it, get under it, carry things in it or be surrounded by it. Textile art is tactile; it begs to be touched, caressed and really owned.
